Sample to Sample Uctuations in Fragmentation and Agglomeration Processes
نویسنده
چکیده
The uctuation dynamics in steady state fragmentation and aggregation processes is analyzed from a kinetic point of view. The uctuations n(x; t) in the number of particles of size between x and x + x, in a sample with average occupation number N(x), appear to behave like sums of uncorrelated events: < n(x; t) 2 >/ N(x). The implications of this fact for the applicability of a mean eld description, and possible relation with intermittency phenomena in three dimensional turbulence are discussed.

A Numerical Simulation Study on the Kinetics of Asphaltene Particle Flocculation in a Two-dimensional Shear Flow
In the current study, the kinetics of asphaltene particle flocculation is investigated under a shear flow through numerical simulation. The discrete element method (DEM) is coupled with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to model the agglomeration and fragmentation processes. In addition, a coalescence model is proposed to consider the attachment of colliding particles. The changes in mean asph...
متن کاملDeposition of carbon nanotubes in commonly used sample filter media
There is no single standard technique or methodology to characterize the size, structure, number, and chemical composition of airborne carbon nanotubes. Existing analytical instruments and analytical techniques for evaluating nanoparticle concentrations cannot simultaneously provide morphology, state of agglomeration, surface area, mass, size distribution and chemical composition data critical...
متن کاملAgglomeration and Fragmentation Phenomena of Bed Materials and Fuel Particles During Gasification of Coal-Biomass Pellets
The paper reports on a current research on fluidised bed gasification of biomass and coals. The focus is on the bed material agglomeration and fragmentation phenomena that are well known to affect the reliability and the efficiency of fluidized bed combustion processes. Preliminary results of dedicated tests at high temperature are reported and discussed in the paper. On the whole, agglomeratio...
متن کاملProposal of Density and Electrostatic Potential Fluctuation Measurements in the Madison Symmetric Torus with a Heavy Ion Beam Probe
A 200 keV heavy ion beam probe (HIBP) system is being installed on the Madison Symmetric Torus (MST) reversed eld pinch (RFP). Measurements of electron density uctuations and electrostatic potential uctuations in MST are proposed here. For the rst time particle transport induced by electrostatic eld uctuations in the core region of MST can be measured through the simultaneous measurement of ele...
متن کاملO-6: A Multi-Regional Study on New Approaches to Investigate The Quality of Human Sperm - Including DNA Fragmentation, Proteomics and Metabolomics
Background: Preliminary data has also shown that there is less fragmented sperm in 2nd and 3rd ejaculates compared to first ones which could be a major factor in determining the pregnancy outcome. Assessing this factor objectively and relating it to other parameters in sperm quality in this study could result in new prediction criteria for the pregnancy outcome. Materials and Methods: As one of...
